South Shore State Primary Results
One race still too close to call, a few races to watch for November, and many elected officials facing no challenge
September 3 - The Massachusetts State Primary last night has set the stage for several key races in the November general election, with one contest still too close to call.
In the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate GOP Primary, Representative Matt Muratore holds a slim 50-vote lead over Bourne School Committee Member Kari MacRae with 99% of votes counted. The race remains undecided, with 14,000 votes cast. The eventual winner will face Democratic Representative Dylan Fernandes for the seat currently held by Senator Sue Moran.
The 6th Plymouth Representative GOP Primary saw Ken Sweezey emerge victorious. He will now face Democrat Becky Coletta in November for the vacant seat formerly held by Josh Cutler, who now serves as Undersecretary of Apprenticeship, Work-Based Learning, and Policy.
In the 1st Plymouth district, Michelle Badger secured the Democratic nomination in a four way race, while Jesse Brown won the Republican primary over Dee Wallace Spencer. They will compete for the seat currently held by Rep. Matt Muratore, who is running for the state Senate.
The Governor's Council Second District Democratic primary resulted in a win for Tamisha Civil, who will face Francis Crimmins in November. They are vying for the vacant seat previously held by Robert Jubinville, now the Framingham District Court Clerk-Magistrate.
The Plymouth County Commission Democratic Primary saw Rhonda Nyman and Greg Hanley claim the two nominations, defeating Scott Vecchi. Nyman and Hanley will face Republicans Jared Valanzola and Tony O'Brien in the general election for seats currently held by Hanley and Valanzola. The top two vote-getters in November will win the seats.
Many incumbents ran unopposed in their primaries and face no challengers in the general election. Senator Pat O'Connor, a Republican, secured his party's nomination and will run unopposed in November. Democratic Senators Mike Brady and John Keenan also faced no primary opposition and have no Republican challengers in the general election.
In the state House of Representatives, Democrats Joan Meschino and Patrick Kearney, along with Republicans David DeCoste and Alyson Sullivan-Almeida, all ran unopposed in their primaries and face no opposition in November.
However, Rep. Kathy LaNatra, while unopposed in the Democratic primary, will face Republican Eric Mescino in the general election.
