Rockland High School Cheer Team Clinches 15th State Championship
School Committee Approves New Fundraisers, Superintendent Expresses Gratitude
ROCKLAND, MA - November 25 - The Rockland High School Varsity Cheer Team has secured another state championship, bringing home the Division IV title. This marks the 15th time Coach Reardon has led the team to victory at the state level.
"Congratulations to the Division IV state champs in high school cheer. So proud of them," said School Committee member Melissa Mauro-Small during Monday's meeting. "Special congratulations to Coach Reardon and her staff. It was her 15th time bringing our team to state championship and winning, so amazing."
The team received a hero's welcome upon their return from Worcester, with Rockland Police and Fire departments meeting the bus to celebrate their achievement. Mauro-Small expressed gratitude for this gesture, and added, "Thank you to everyone who helped those girls get there, and there's a lot to be proud of."
Fans can see the championship-winning cheerleaders perform at the upcoming Thanksgiving football game, which has been moved to Wednesday night at 6 p.m. this year.
In other business, the Rockland School Committee approved seven new fundraisers for various school programs. The Rockland High School Boosters received approval for four events to support the hockey team, including an alumni hockey game on Nov. 29 and a fundraising table at the holiday stroll on Nov. 30.
The Boosters will also sell raffle tickets throughout the hockey season in a "Bucks for Pucks" initiative and create program books for home games starting Dec. 1.
The wrestling program gained approval to sell beef jerky from Dec. 3 to Dec. 17 to raise funds. Meanwhile, the class of 2027 will sell blue plaid embroidered blankets from December into January, and the class of 2026 will host a Domino's night on Dec. 11.
Superintendent Alan Cron took time during the meeting to express gratitude to various departments and individuals within the school district. He commended the fall sports teams and Athletic Director Dan Kimball for "outstanding work on the playing fields."
Cron highlighted the art department's achievements, including high school students decorating windows at Coastal Bank and Rockland Athletics for the upcoming holiday stroll.
The superintendent praised Adele Leonard and the food service team for their exceptional work, noting their enthusiasm and innovative programs like food tastings at the middle and high schools.
"Food service, they do an amazing job," Cron said. "They get terrific fruit and vegetables from the government, which is very helpful. They just do an outstanding job, and they do it enthusiastically."
Cron also recognized the technology department for adapting to budget cuts and taking on additional responsibilities. He thanked the maintenance and custodial staff for keeping the buildings in excellent condition, even working on weekends.
The superintendent acknowledged the Rockland Education Foundation for its continued support, enabling teachers to enhance their programs. He also praised the Pep Band for their consistent presence at football games and WRPS for their involvement in school culture.
Special education programs received recognition, with Cron stating, "Our Pathways Program, our Bridges Program, our Sail Program, we are leaving no child behind, and the level of safety nets that we have in this district are outstanding."
The meeting concluded with well-wishes for the Thanksgiving holiday and anticipation for the upcoming holiday stroll November 30, which committee members noted will take place earlier this year, from 3 to 6 p.m.
