The district is currently in the process of interviewing candidates for the new middle school principal position, with hopes to make an announcement by the end of the week or early next week.
In addition to the leadership changes, the district announced that there will be no changes to bus fees for the upcoming school year. The deadline for bus registration is July 12, and families are encouraged to sign up early to ensure a spot and help with route planning.
Dr. Cron emphasized the importance of early registration, stating, "When folks don't register and don't register and don't register and don't register, we're trying to establish routes, trying to establish capacity, et cetera. So we really urge people to please get your registrations in as soon as possible."
The district's transportation program remains one of the most comprehensive in the Commonwealth, with a fee of $275 per student and a cap of $475 per family. Transportation is free for K-8 students living outside of a 2-mile radius from their school.
During the meeting, the school committee also recognized the efforts of the Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) from each school. PAC representatives shared their fundraising successes and the various enrichment activities they provided for students throughout the year.
School Committee member Jill Maroney expressed her gratitude to the PAC leaders, saying, "Each and every one of you has done so much for all of the students that are in your school, your time, your dedication does not go unnoticed, and we're just incredibly lucky to have you and appreciate all of your hard work."
As the school year comes to a close, Dr. Cron took a moment to thank his senior leadership team, union leadership, and various department heads for their critical roles in making the district run smoothly. He expressed his pride in the nearly 500 employees working together to serve the students of Rockland Public Schools.
Looking ahead, the district wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable summer break, with School Committee member Dan Biggins adding, "I hope all the staff has a wonderful, restful, rejuvenating time off."
